Welcome To The Bay’s first episode for 2024 has premiered, with host Lucas Buczak alongside Tori welcoming Jess Redmayne onto the podcast following last weeks announcement that Jess would be appearing for the episode.
With an opening segment of Fan (Tori) vs Actor (Jess), we heard from Jess about her opinions on her character’s storylines and relationships.
After Tori mentioned seeing an LGBT storyline for Harper, Jess saw an unique pathway for the show to take. “An LGBTQ storyline would be fantastic as a social worker in terms of guiding a young person in the community that’s coming out”
When it came to a relationship for her character, Redmayne wanted something strong to come along. “In terms of a relationship, I would love for some mysterious ex boyfriend to come to the bay and make it a little spicy, ruffle some feathers.”
After making her first appearance back in September 2023, Jess revealed she was celebrating one year of filming the show.
“Do you know what? We’re recording this on March 20th, I actually started filming, I think it was - if my memory recalls correctly - it was the 21st of March last year so it’s almost a year!”
But that wasn’t the only milestone she will be cracking.
“We’re about to break for Easter and when we return from the Easter break, I will have filmed 100 episodes,” she revealed.

Talking about her early auditions for the show, Jess recollected the audition process.
“There were probably about 20 of us, and we all went into the room and we got mixed and matched together. Some people were auditioning for both Harper and Dana, I was just auditioning for Harper. I was originally actually auditioning for Dana and then casting realised I was not as young as I used to be and then went for Harper.”
Redmayne opened up about her experiences with Dementia in her family, after her mother was diagnosed with early-onset Dementia 10 years ago.
“When I started to, I guess, build a bigger profile as an actor I started to do a lot of things with Dementia Australia. I would host a lot of events for them, like their memory walk and jog and things like that, that are held all across the country. And then when I joined Home and Away, they were really lovely and gave me the ambassador role.”
Jess revealed some sneaky details about Harper’s future in Summer Bay:
“Harper has a big year ahead. A lot of challenges and some scary things, some very exciting things but it’s going to be a rocky road, it’ll be very interesting. I’m excited for the audience to see what’s in tale for Harper.”
